Supervision and coaching

Coaching

Coaching involves a collaborative 2-way process to support reflection, problem solving, and positive action planning. It is goal-focussed and built around a non-hierarchical relationship. Coaching therefore supports people to develop solutions that are meaningful and personal to them, but without the pressures that might often come with a more hierarchical or management-based relationship.  Coaching can help people to: Identify their strengths and values, find meaning in their work, come up with positive and achievable action plans, manage change, transitions, and crossroads in their lives. I am a member of the International Society for Coaching Psychology, and of a national Coaching Psychology interest group for Educational Psychologists. I have provided coaching to school staff in both mainstream and alternative provision. I am also trained in pupil coaching, which I have found to be beneficial when working with young people who might mistrust an adult in a more traditional and  hierarchical support setting.

Reflective spaces / Supervision

Supervision provides a collaborative and non-judgemental safe space for educational professionals to reflect on their practice, relationships, and the emotional aspects of their work. Supervision has been shown to support best-practice, psychological wellbeing, effective relationships, work environment and culture, and personal development. EPs are required to have regular supervision to keep their licence to practice. I passionately believe that supervision should also be available to all teaching staff and those that support them in schools. Supervision can be provided individually or for a group of professionals. I have extensive experience of both individual and group supervision, using a range of supervision models. This includes: Group supervision for Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), individual and group peer supervision of Educational Psychology colleagues, supervision of Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners (part of the Mental Health Support Teams), supervision of school staff managing difficult situations, individual supervision of colleagues from other SEND support services, supervising Trainee Educational Psychologists.
